Central Library, GTN is one of the best Arts college libraries in the South Tamilnadu. It started its function with a vision to serve the information needs of its users and it mainly holds books related to Arts, Science and allied subjects. The G.T.N. Arts College established its library in the year 1964 the library collection is about 34257 Volumes. The library amazingly rich collection contains Abstracts, Directories, Yearbooks, Biographical sources, Textbooks, Thesis, Dissertations, Encyclopedias and General books including Tamil novels. The library is also subscribing for 31 subject journals, 38 general magazines and library subscribed full text online database like American Institute of Physics, APS, Annual Reviews, Cambridge University Press, Economic & Political Weekly, Indian journals, Institute of Physics, Oxford University Press, Royal Society of Chemistry, Wilson Ominifile Full text, E-brary, Oxford Scholarship, NetLibrary, Mc Graw Hill and bibliographic database Mathscinet through N-LIST E resources (Through INFLIBNET) for resource sharing. E resource centre with 05 systems to access the E-Journals, E-books, CD/DVD’s are available in library.

G.T.N. ARTS COLLEGE, DINDIGUL              

HISTORY OF THE COLLEGE

G.T.N. Arts College was established in the year 1964 by G.T.Narayanasamy Naidu Charity Trust and the foundation stone was laid by Honorable Sri.M.Bakthavtsalam, the then Chief Minister of Government of Madras.  Our College is a 53 years old educational institution; it has achieved many milestones with a clear vision and high objectives in the educational map of Dindigul. Our College facilitates the youth to realize their greatest potential and enable them to shine in chosen field.

G.T.N Arts College is the co-educational institutional aided by Government of Tamilnadu and affiliated to Madurai Kamaraj University, the college is accredited by NAAC with B Grade and recognized by UGC under section of 12 B and 2(f) status which strives to impart quality education. The college is conferred with autonomous status by UGC, New Delhi in 2017.

The college has modern infrastructure and the necessary facility to maintain high academic standards and the institution has the unique honour of being acclaimed as one of outstanding educational institutions in Madurai Kamaraj University. We are offering 15 UG06 PG, 03MPhil and 05 Research programmes at our college. Over last 53 years, we are leader in bagging the University Ranks and our students have obtained 17 University Ranks in the previous academic year.

Our G.T.N College is located in a greenery atmosphere, with Sirumalai Hills, Western Ghat, at its backdrop on the Dindigul – Karur Highway.

LIBRARY ACCESS

 

RIGHT OF ENTRY TO THE LIBRARY RESERVED

The right of entry to the G.T.N. Arts College Central Library is reserved to the bonafide students, teachers, non – teaching and other staff members of the college.  Students are required to keep their Identity Cards with them for inspection whenever they visit the library.  Library staff is authorized to ask them to show the same at any time.  A serious view is taken of unauthorized entrants.

VARIOUS SECTIONS OF LIBRARY

  •  Issue System

Books will be issued on presentation of the library card along with the smart card. Students are instructed to check the books while borrowing and they will be responsible for any type of damage or mutilation noticed at the time of return.

  • Overdue Charges

Books will be issued to the students for 14 days only. In the last page slip is pasted and stamped mentioning the due date and the fine will be charged @ Re.1 per day per book from the due date till the book is returned to library.

  • Book Lost

If the books are lost, then the borrower shall replace the books of the same edition or latest edition or pay double cost of the book after getting permission from the librarian.

  • Care of library borrower cards

Take special care to maintain the library borrower cards. Do not fold, alter entries made on the cards, members are responsible for the entire set of library borrower card issued to them.

  • Loss of cards

Loss of borrower card should be reported to the librarian in writing. After checking the borrowing register they will be issued a fresh replacement card on a payment of Rs.20/-per card.

  • Validity of cards

Library borrower cards are valid for the respective academic duration only. At the end of the academic duration borrower cards shall be returned to the library.

  • No due Certificate

Each student shall obtain No dues certificate from the library after returning all the books issued, surrendering the borrower’s cards and after paying outstanding dues, if any.

  • Care of Library Books

Students are require to handle the books/ Journal very carefully; marking with pencil, writing or highlighting , tearing the pages or mutilating the same in any other way will be viewed very seriously. In such case reader shall be held responsible unless these are brought to the notice of the library staff at the time of issue.

  1. Reference Section: This section contains encyclopedia, dictionaries, biographies, atlases, and other books, which can be consulted in the reference section only.  The books from this section cannot be issued.
  2. Research Section : In these section Dissertations/Theses, Journals, General magazines and News Letter are available. The latest issues are displayed on display rack and other previous issues are arranged in the drawer. Bound volumes of periodicals are arranged in wooden class Alamar  and are meat only for reference within the library

Restrictions on access and downloading of licensed e-Resources

The e-Resources are licensed for the non-profit educational use of the Institute. Copyright law governs the use of these e-Resources.

Doing the following things are strictly prohibited:

  • Systematic downloading, distributing or retaining substantial portions.
  • Forwarding electronic versions of articles or the use of electronic articles for commercial purposes.
  • Strictly prohibited to download entire journal issue or databases or an entire e-book.

Why should we not do the above things?

  • Improper use can result in a denial of access for the whole Institute to all electronic journals from a given publisher.
  • Access to e-Resources is based on license agreements with publishers.
  • Library users are permitted to make digital copies of individual documents, that is, to download an individual document temporarily to their own hard disc for non-commercial purposes only.
  • Under the terms of use, it neither permits forwarding electronic versions of articles nor the use of electronic articles for commercial purposes.
  • Publishers keep track of patterns of use and where the publishers suspect misuse in the form of systematic downloading (eg. more than one article from an issue, continuous downloading from a particular journal etc.).
  • They will cut off access requiring Library to investigate and take action on those who have misused the e-Resources.
  • There have been instances where publishers have withdrawn access to their online resources to the entire Institute.
  • This prevents access by the majority of responsible users to information needed for their research and learning.
  • It becomes obligatory on the library’s part to investigate such misuses and report the same to the publishers.

CLEARANCE CERTIFICATE

  1. Library books are the property of the library. Before taking the final University Examination or termination connection with the college, it is the responsibility of each and every member to return all library books, to settle all the library dues if any.
  2. At the time of getting their library clearance, the students are required to bring their Identity – Card.
  3. While coming for getting clearance from the college Central library, the students of the post graduate classes and final year students of all classes are required to bring No – Dues certificates from those library also for which their membership was recommended by the college Central library.
  4. Those students, who due to any reason, do not appear in their respective examination or are declared failed in the same are required to surrender their library membership so that the same not be misused. After surrendering their membership, such students get library clearance.
  5. All the staff members at the time of retirement should get the No – Dues certificate from the library. The Teaching Staff – members appointed on Ad – hoc basis must obtain clearance certificate from the library (in case of resignation or Termination). The administrative office of the college should intimate to the library regarding the concerned retired person, or about the Teacher who have resigned or have been terminated
